The Light Dragoons
Charity Boxing Event

On Saturday the 5th of March The Light Dragoons will host a night of adrenaline-fuelled boxing entertainment at the Royal Norfolk Showground. The soldiers will be matched against amateur boxers from clubs across Norfolk.

As many as 15 bouts will be fought in the evening across a variety of weight categories. With their personal, regimental and club reputations on the line there promises to be a number of exciting battles in aid of two charities; The Light Dragoons Colonel's Appeal and the Norfolk Amateur Boxing Association.

Six members of the Regiment were killed and another 37 injured during their last tour to Afghanistan in 2009; the treatment for some of these casualties continues but even greater demands for welfare support to this generation of soldiers are expected in the future.

The Colonel's Appeal will provide the essential long term support to members of The Regiment and their families who have suffered physical and psychological injuries as a result of recent operational deployments. The intention of the appeal is to raise £1 million between now and the end of 2012 when The Regiment is due to return from its next deployment to Afghanistan.

Doors open at 19.30 hrs, the first bout scheduled to start at 2030 hrs.

Please note: You must have purchased a ticket to attend this event

Event Sponsorship

Norfolk Amateur Boxing Association

The Norfolk Amateur Boxing Association is made up by representatives from clubs across the county. They are responsible for the organisation of events, matches, venues, training and boxer availability in Norfolk. Without the Norfolk ABA the county would not have the success in boxing that is enjoyed by so many young and old amateur boxers. As a result of the hard work put in by the ABA, Norfolk has produced some of the country's finest international boxers

With their training almost complete the boxers are now ready and raring to go.

There will definitely be some tough boxing with all the fighters very evenly matched. Guests are reminded that entry will be refused without a ticket but a small number of tickets will be available on the night.
